D-ATIS for example, was providing information to the pilot that could have an impact on the pilot to land or not. In that sense, the ATIS message was perceived as being a flight safety related message. The OPLINK WG concluded that the D-ATIS messages should be upgraded to network layer priority 10 - normal-priority flight safety messages. Assigned SME: Sub-Volume I and II SMEs Proposed SARPs amendment: 1/ SUB-VOLUME I: in table 1-2, move "ATIS" from the ligne "Aeronautical information service messages" to the ligne "Normal-priority flight safety messages". 2/ SUB-VOLUME II: in section 2.4.6.2.2.1, amend "Aeronautical Information Service messages" to read "Normal-priority flight safety messages". Impact on interoperability: Since the is a strong check by the ground ASE on the application priority (i.e. the dialogue is aborted if the priority is not as expected), all implementations must use the new priority value, otherwise they won't be able to inter-operate.
