This is explained in details in Doc 9539. It is proposed to make this statement explicit in SARPs chapter 7 for the version 2 applications which are backward compatible (all but FIS). Assigned SME: Sub-Volume II SME Proposed SARPs amendment: CM-1/ Add the following sections 2.1.7.1.1.1.1 When communicating with a version 1 CM ground system, the CM-air-user shall be prohibited from: a) sending a CM-server-facility-query request, and b) using the Security Required parameter with any value other than "No security". 2.1.7.2.1.3.1 When communicating with a version 1 CM aircraft, the CM-ground-user shall be prohibited from: a) sending a CM-server-facility-query response, b) sending a CM-server-facility-update request, c) sending a CM-logon response with a CMSecureLogonResponse parameter, d) sending a CM-update request with a CMSecureUpdate parameter, e) using the Security Required parameter with any value other than "No security". Note.- In some cases the Security Required parameter may not be provided. 2.1.7.2.1.3.2 When communicating with a version 1 CM ground system, the CM-ground-user shall be prohibited from: a) sending a CM-forward request with a CMEnhancedForwardRequest parameter, and b) using the Security Required parameter with any value other than "No security". ADS-1/ add the following section: 2.2.1.7.1.1.3 A version 2 ADS-user shall be prohibited from invoking any ADS version 2 specific service or using any ADS version 2 specific parameter with a version 1 ADS peer system. 2.2.1.7.1.1.3.1 When talking to a version 1 ADS ground system, the ADS-air-user shall be prohibited from: a) sending an ADS-demand-contract response with the reply parameter set to positive acknowledgement upon receipt of an ADS-demand-contract indication ; b) sending an extended-met-info block upon receipt of an ADS-demand-contract or an ADS-periodic-contract indication requesting meteorological information ; and c) sending an ADS-report request or an ADS-emergency-report request with the Emergency and/or Urgency Status parameter set. 2.2.1.7.1.1.3.2 When talking to a version 1 ADS air system, the ADS-ground-user shall be prohibited from sending an ADS-demand-contract request, an ADS-event-contract request or a ADS-periodic-contract request with the Security Required parameter set to "secured exchange". ARF-1/ There is no change for ARF. A version 2 initiating ARF is not allowed to establish a ground contract with a version 1 ARF system, it must emulate a version 1. When a version 1 initiating system establish a ground contract with a version 2 ARF system, there is no version 2 specific service or parameter the version 2 ARF system can invoke or use. CPDLC-1/add the following section 2.3.7.3.11.9 Backward compatibility 2.3.7.3.11.9.1 When talking to a version 1 CPDLC air system, the version 2 CPDLC-ground-user shall be prohibited from sending any CPDLC message containing the uplink message element REQUEST AGAIN WITH NEXT UNIT. FIS-1/ [Note: the following change is applicable only if PDR M1030001 is RESOLVED]. 2.4.7.2.1.1 A version 2 FIS-user shall be prohibited from invoking any FIS version 2 specific service or using any FIS version 2 specific parameter with a version 1 FIS peer system. 2.4.7.2.1.1.1 When talking to a version 1 FIS ground system, the ADS-air-user shall be prohibited from: a) sending an FIS-demand-contract request with the parameter set to METAR; or b) sending an FIS-demand-contract request with the parameter set to "secured exchange".
