Title: Re-use of Transport PDR Reference: 99010002 Originator Reference: ULCS-99-01 SARPs Document Reference: 4.4.3.1 (row S.A.6.2/2 of Table 4.4-3) Status: WITHDRAWN Impact: n/a PDR Revision Date: 19/04/99 (WG3/SG3 meeting) PDR Submission Date: 08/01/99 Submitting State/Organisation: Open Network Solutions, Inc. (USA) Submitting Author Name: Moulton, James Submitting Author E-mail Address: moulton@ons.com Submitting Author Supplemental Contact Information: 22636 Glenn Dr Suite 305 Sterling, VA 20164 USA SARPs Date: DOC 9705 SARPs Language: English Summary of Defect: The PRL for the Session Layer includes the reuse of transport connections as Optional (as per ISO 8073). However when using the efficiency enhancements, reuse of transport should never be used since the binding of an application to the session protocol does not have sufficient addressing information. The reuse of transport connections should be prohibited in all cases except AMHS. Assigned SME: SME 4 (A. Kerr) Proposed SARPs amendment: Modify entry S.A.6.2/2 from O to X SME Recommendation to CCB: REJECT WG3/SG3 meeting in Toulouse, Jan 99 concluded that a TC could be re-used if the initial S-connection is refused. In all other cases, the transport connection is taken down when the association ends (the session connection is aborted, hence T-DISCONNECT), so there is no TC available for re-use anyway. Propose to REJECT the PDR. Discussion at CCB-8 (Honolulu) meeting. Originator maintains there is a real defect. However, there are known implementations which have successfully re-used TCs in the case where a TC is established but UL connection fails. The collision case needs to be looked at. The PDR needs further discussion on the SME4 list. S. Van Trees actioned to check Session efficiency enhancements. J. Moulton actioned to clarify the defect. WG3/SG3 meeting in Palo Alto, Apr 99. Withdrawn by originator. Superseded by 99040003. CCB Decision: n/a (WITHDRAWN)
